I hear people talk a lot about what success means to them. For some people, it is as complex as doubling their revenue year over year. For others, it is as simple as writing a blog post every month for their personal writing practice.
When I sit back and think about what success means to me… yes, reaching financial milestones and publishing blog posts are part of the picture. In my head, those items are non-negotiable when building the type of business we are building. They are built-in recurring goals. With that said, to me, success and meeting goals are two very different things.
Goals are self-defined milestones and help you to make accomplishments and build your business.
Success is accomplishing those milestones while maintaining integrity and feeling whole while you get there.
You might be asking “What do you mean by maintaining integrity and feeling whole, I am meeting my goals, my customers are happy and I am making money. I must be living in integrity and I feel pretty good!”
Well, what I mean by that is, are you being as honest as possible everyday and not compromising who you are to obtain those goals and hit those milestones?
Jena & I have core values we strongly believe in that help shape our business and the decisions we make. We use them as benchmarks to ensure we are maintaining integrity within our business, which in return, makes us feel whole. It makes us feel happy, knowing that we are staying true to ourselves, doing the best we can by our customers while truly delivering the best products and services we can.
Example:
Core Value: Peer to Peer Facilitation
What does that mean?: We truly believe in being a peer to anyone we work with. We do not have all of the answers and will never claim that we do, therefore, we are your peer.
How that translates to our business decisions: During the in-person accountability group that we offer, we often times have worksheets that we have created and tested, associated with the topic of the week. How we stay true to the peer to peer facilitation aspect of our business, is that we talk you through the outcomes of the worksheet, guide you through how to accomplish them, all while doing the worksheets as well, right there with you. We always share openly and honestly about our experiences, just as you are.
In your business, YOU are your unique value proposition. YOU are what sets you apart from the crowd and attracts your ideal customers and encourages them to hit the purchase button. All of that starts with what your core values are. What your business is built upon.
I would encourage you to take a step back and think about success really means to you. Stay Creative. Stay You.
